RHODE JUST ENTERED 19 EUROPEAN MARKETS IN ONE DAY..

RHODE JUST ENTERED 19 EUROPEAN MARKETS IN ONE DAY..

Hailey Bieber's beauty brand didn't build 19 separate retail operations. It used one partner, one launch date and more than 500 Sephora stores to enter an entire continent at once.

ONE DAY, 19 COUNTRIES

On September 30, 2026, rhode officially launched at Sephora across 19 new European markets.

The countries are:

Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

The products are available through Sephora online and in more than 500 stores across Europe.

That's an unusual expansion strategy.

Instead of entering Europe country by country, rhode effectively plugged itself into an existing retail network.

One brand → one retailer → 19 markets → 500+ physical locations

RHODE DIDN'T BUILD THE STORES

This is the part that makes the expansion economically interesting.

rhode didn't have to open hundreds of stores.

It didn't have to negotiate a separate retail strategy for France, Germany, Italy, Spain and every other market.

Sephora already had:

Stores → employees → logistics → customers → local market knowledge

rhode gets access to that infrastructure.

This is one of the biggest advantages of retail partnerships for fast-growing consumer brands.

The brand provides the demand.

The retailer provides the distribution.

THE INTERNET CREATED THE DEMAND FIRST

rhode was founded by Hailey Bieber in June 2022 with a deliberately small assortment of skincare products.

The strategy was very different from launching a huge traditional beauty line.

Instead of filling shelves with dozens of products, rhode built recognition around a relatively limited group of highly recognizable products and a distinctive visual identity.

The company then grew through social media, product launches and direct-to-consumer sales.

By the time it reached European stores, many consumers already knew what rhode was.

The physical retail launch therefore isn't creating the audience from zero.

It's monetizing an audience that already exists.

AND E.L.F. BOUGHT THE ENGINE

There is another major piece behind the expansion.

In 2025, e.l.f. Beauty acquired rhode for $1 billion.

That transformed rhode from an independent celebrity-founded beauty company into part of a much larger beauty group.

The acquisition gave rhode access to something a social-first brand can struggle to build itself:

global distribution infrastructure.

And e.l.f. gets something different:

A brand with unusually strong cultural and social momentum.

The European rollout is therefore also a test of the acquisition.

RHODE HAD ALREADY TESTED SEPHORA

Europe isn't rhode's first Sephora experiment.

The brand entered Sephora in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom in 2025.

The launches reportedly performed exceptionally well.

According to e.l.f., rhode became the number-one beauty brand at Sephora in North America and the U.K. after those launches.

Cosmetics Business reported that rhode generated more than $10 million in beauty sales at Sephora U.S. during its first two days, while becoming Sephora UK's number-one brand one week after launch.

Those results provided the justification for going much wider.

THEN RHODE DID SOMETHING EVEN MORE INTERESTING

Before entering European stores, rhode had already been building physical familiarity.

In 2025, it created a rhode beach club in Mallorca.

In summer 2026, it followed with its rhode summer stations in Amalfi and Copenhagen.

These weren't traditional permanent stores.

They were temporary physical experiences designed around the brand.

So the sequence was:

Social media → temporary physical experiences → retail partnership → permanent shelf presence

The consumer had already encountered the "world of rhode" before walking into Sephora.

THE PRODUCT IS ONLY HALF THE EXPERIENCE

rhode's physical identity is deliberately recognizable.

Its stores and retail installations use the brand's familiar grey, glossy aesthetic and rounded forms.

For the European launch, selected Sephora locations are receiving custom rhode installations, including bespoke facades and large-scale three-dimensional representations of its products.

That matters because physical retail can easily make an internet-native brand feel ordinary.

A product that looks distinctive on Instagram can look like just another bottle on a crowded beauty shelf.

rhode is trying to prevent that.

SEPHORA BECOMES THE PHYSICAL INTERNET

This is perhaps the most interesting way to look at the partnership.

Social media gave rhode:

Discovery

Community

Virality

Product launches

Sephora adds:

Physical trial

Distribution

Convenience

Retail credibility

The two channels solve different problems.

A customer can discover a product online.

But cosmetics are unusually dependent on physical experience.

You can see the packaging online.

You can also touch it, test it and compare it with other products in a store.

BEAUTY HAS A PHYSICAL PROBLEM

This is why beauty brands still need stores despite the enormous growth of social commerce.

A customer may want to know:

What does the shade actually look like?

How does the texture feel?

What does the product look like on skin?

Which shade is right for me?

Digital marketing can create desire.

Physical retail can remove hesitation.

rhode now gets both.

THE BUSINESS HAD ALREADY SHOWN ITS DTC POWER

rhode's direct-to-consumer business also gives an idea of how strong its launches can be.

In June 2026, rhode launched its summer collection directly through its own website.

According to e.l.f., the launch generated $27 million in direct-to-consumer sales in a single day.

It also brought in 90,000 new consumers, while more than 70% of sales came from existing consumers.

That last number is particularly interesting.

It suggests rhode wasn't relying exclusively on new customers discovering the brand.

Existing customers were returning for new products.

That's exactly what a beauty company wants.

THE PRODUCT PORTFOLIO IS GETTING WIDER

rhode originally became known for skincare.

It has increasingly moved into hybrid makeup.

The European Sephora launch includes its core skincare assortment alongside products such as Pocket Bronze and Highlight Milk.

That expansion matters commercially.

A customer who enters the brand through one skincare product can potentially become a customer for:

Skincare → blush → bronzer → lip products → highlighter

The goal isn't simply to sell one viral product.

It's to build a routine.

AND THEN COME THE EXCLUSIVES

For the European and U.K. launch, rhode is also using Sephora-exclusive and early-access products.

One example is the Pretzel Peptide Lip Tint, which receives early access through Sephora in Europe and the U.K. before joining rhode's global core assortment.

There are also limited Sephora-exclusive products, including a Baby Bubble Bag in Pretzel and the return of the Peptide Lip Tint in Lemontini.

That's a clever retail tactic.

The retailer isn't simply a place where the brand happens to be sold.

The retailer gets something exclusive.

EXCLUSIVITY CREATES A REASON TO VISIT

This creates a simple commercial loop:

Exclusive product → customer interest → Sephora visit → rhode discovery → additional purchases

It also gives Sephora something to promote.

The retailer gets content.

rhode gets distribution.

Both sides have a reason to market the launch.

THE ACQUISITION NOW LOOKS DIFFERENT

When e.l.f. paid $1 billion for rhode, it wasn't simply buying skincare formulas.

It was buying a brand with:

Celebrity recognition

Social distribution

A highly engaged community

Direct-to-consumer infrastructure

Product-launch momentum

The European expansion demonstrates another part of the asset:

International retail scalability.

If the same brand can be inserted into existing retail infrastructure country after country, the value of the original community becomes much larger.

THIS IS WHAT "OMNICHANNEL" ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

The word can sound like corporate jargon.

rhode makes the mechanism easier to see.

A customer might discover a product through Hailey Bieber's social content.

Then see it on rhode's website.

Then encounter it through a summer activation.

Then walk into Sephora and test it.

Then buy it in-store.

Then post about it.

Then discover the next product online.

The channels reinforce one another.

Social → DTC → physical retail → social

That is the flywheel.

THE CELEBRITY IS STILL IMPORTANT

But Hailey Bieber's role is more complicated than simply being the face of the company.

She founded rhode and remains its Chief Creative Officer and Head of Innovation.

That means the celebrity identity is connected to product development, brand direction and community-building rather than being purely an endorsement arrangement.

That distinction matters.

The company isn't just saying:

"Hailey uses this product."

It is saying:

"This is Hailey's brand."

The ownership story is much stronger.

THE € AND $ AREN'T THE ONLY NUMBERS THAT MATTER

A $1 billion acquisition.

$27 million in one DTC day.

19 new countries.

500+ stores.

90,000 new consumers from one product launch.

These numbers tell a bigger story.

rhode is moving through different stages of consumer-brand development:

Audience → product → repeat purchase → retail distribution → international scale

Each stage makes the previous one more valuable.

EUROPE IS NOT JUST MORE SALES

The European expansion also gives rhode more physical visibility.

Being available in a Sephora in Paris, Milan, Berlin or Madrid is different from merely shipping a package to those countries.

The brand becomes part of the local beauty retail environment.

It becomes something consumers can encounter without already following Hailey Bieber.

That's a significant transition.

The brand is moving from:

"Something you discovered online"

to:

"A beauty brand you can find in your city."

THE REALLY SMART PART IS THE SPEED

Normally, international expansion is slow.

New country.

New distributor.

New warehouse.

New retail agreements.

New marketing.

New launch.

Then repeat.

rhode's strategy compresses much of that process by partnering with a retailer that already operates across the continent.

The result is almost theatrical:

September 29 → not yet in 19 markets

September 30 → available across 19 new countries

The infrastructure existed before the brand arrived.

rhode simply plugged into it.

MAACAT PERSPECTIVE

rhode's European expansion looks like a celebrity beauty launch on the surface.

Underneath, it's a lesson in distribution leverage.

Hailey Bieber helped build the audience.

rhode turned that audience into a product business.

e.l.f. bought the brand for $1 billion.

Sephora provides the physical infrastructure.

And on September 30, 2026, the brand effectively crossed 19 European borders in one day, entering more than 500 stores at once.

The important part isn't simply that rhode became available in more countries.

It's that a brand born on the internet can now use an existing retail network to turn one digital community into a continental physical distribution system.
